Kharkiv, Ukraine — In a bright show of international solidarity, the Chervona Kalyna Kharkiv Foundation welcomed a delegation of visitors from Norway and the United States today, including representatives from the U.S.-based NGO The Novi Community. Together, they transformed the foundation’s space into a vibrant, joy-filled haven for displaced children.
The guests, including The Novi Community’s CEO Steven, manager Oleksandr, and volunteer couple Anya and John, were greeted by dozens of eager young faces. Through their partnership, the foundation and The Novi Community crafted a day of creative therapy and play designed to provide a meaningful escape from the strains of displacement. With a “magic backpack” brimming with interactive games and art supplies, the children painted, leapt into games of Twister, blew bubbles, and tossed balls, filling the room with laughter and energy.
Each activity was chosen to offer both physical movement and emotional uplift, creating moments of shared joy. As smiles spread across the children’s faces, it was clear that the event succeeded in bringing light to their day.
A highlight of the day was the arrival of a dove aviary. The foundation’s room transformed into a gentle swirl of color, as children and parents alike took turns feeding and petting the tame, multi-colored doves. “Dove therapy,” as organizers called it, brought a peaceful sense of connection to all who participated.
In addition to the day’s activities, the children and their families enjoyed a festive spread featuring cookies, pizza, pastries, and fresh compote, a comforting tradition provided by Chervona Kalyna Kharkiv. And in a final gesture, each child left with their own “magic backpack,” filled with games and supplies to carry the day’s joy forward.
This event, made possible by The Novi Community and the foundation’s dedicated staff, highlighted the power of community and collaboration in supporting displaced children, many of whom require special care and attention during these challenging times.
