In the Early Days of War, a Foundation for Aid and Resilience Takes Root in Kharkiv

Kharkiv, Ukraine — In the icy March days of 2022, as bombs fell and lives were shattered, the feeling of helplessness was profound. In this city on the brink, a small group of people faced the terrifying realization that life would never be the same. Yet from that devastation came a spark: the resolve to act, to support those unable to protect themselves. Out of necessity and hope, the Chervona Kalyna Kharkiv Foundation was born.

From Fear to Determination

The first days of war were an unending blur, each news report bringing fresh anguish. But as the fog lifted, the decision was clear—waiting was not an option. Families arrived from across Ukraine, many with only a single bag and the hands of their children clinging tightly. Their stories of escape, of survival, became our stories. In that cold spring, we resolved to create a safe harbor, a place where the vulnerable could find solace and support.

Steps to Aid and Comfort

Our initial response was humble: cooking meals for those who stayed to defend Kharkiv. Amid shortages and no heating, we built fires and prepared simple hot dishes. Each serving of soup or tea became more than sustenance; it was an act of solidarity, of reaching out. With each meal served, we took our first steps toward building an enduring system of support.

The Mission Expands: Aid for Displaced Families

It soon became clear that the need extended beyond those on the front lines. Displaced families, many arriving with only the essentials they could carry, needed warmth, comfort, and stability. In the faces of children, mothers, and the elderly, we saw reflections of our own families. We began collecting warm clothing, medicine, and toys, recognizing that true support meant addressing all facets of their loss.

The Foundation Takes Shape

With growing resolve, we united around the idea of a foundation—one that could sustain this aid, powered by all who felt compelled to help. When others asked, “What can I do?” our answer was simple: “Join us, even if it’s just a small step.” Though we lacked formal resources and structure, we moved forward with the conviction that small efforts could lay the foundation for lasting change.

What started as modest, seemingly small gestures became the cornerstone of Chervona Kalyna Kharkiv. Each day, our efforts became more organized, and a community began to form, united by the commitment to help. We drew strength from knowing that we could not only endure but also extend that endurance to others.

Looking Forward with Faith

Today, our foundation’s efforts may be modest, but we believe they form the building blocks of a larger victory. Every bowl of soup served, every warm coat given, is a step toward a world without fear and suffering.

Chervona Kalyna Kharkiv may still be in its infancy, but we are already part of something larger, something that grows stronger with each act of kindness. To all who stand with us, who share in this dream of peace and compassion, we are deeply grateful.

Each donation strengthens our shared path toward peace and resilience.
