Kharkiv, Ukraine — Against a backdrop of uncertainty and loss, a simple yet heartwarming scene unfolded today at the Chervona Kalyna Kharkiv Foundation: the opening of a mini-library designed just for children. The event, marked by animated play and wide-eyed wonder, drew in children from displaced families and their parents, each guest welcomed with open arms and generous hearts.
As the event began, any lingering nervousness quickly gave way to laughter and excitement. Professional entertainers led the children through a series of games, filling the room with laughter and the echoes of pure joy. It was a momentary escape for these young visitors, a rare opportunity to relax in a safe, warm environment.
After the games, a table laden with treats awaited the children. There was no shortage of delights: pastries, cookies, fruit compote, and even pizza. Yet, the surprises didn’t stop there. Each child left with a carefully chosen book, a sunhat to fuel dreams of future adventures, and a bag filled with small gifts. For these children, many of whom have known only upheaval in recent months, the day was nothing short of a holiday.
The success of this event is owed in no small part to Food Bank Ukraine, a longstanding partner of Chervona Kalyna Kharkiv, whose support has made initiatives like this possible. “We hope this library becomes a cherished space, where children come not only for knowledge but also to create new, joyful memories,” said a foundation representative.
Today’s smiles, seen on both the children’s faces and in the proud eyes of their parents, are the greatest reward for those working tirelessly to bring moments of light into the lives of Ukraine’s most vulnerable.
